Saturday 4th May 2024

A family party of 3 Common cranes flew west over Dryham lane & then alighted briefly at the West End, before flying off to the south,
On Cell 2a, there was a Turnstone feeding on the eastern bank,
Cell 'A' had a Greenshank during the morning,
The White-fronted goose spent the day on the Village lake,
Also seen was the Garden warbler (showing & singing by the Silt pond), a pair of Yellow wagtails (North field) & 50+ House martins (over Dryham lane)

Friday 3rd May 2024

A Common crane flew west over Crossland's lake in the late morning,
On the Silt pond, there was a Ringed plover,
The White-fronted goose was briefly seen on Cell 'A' in the early morning, before flying off to the south,
Corn bunting was singing in the New workings,
The Savi's warbler was heard in Cell 'C' in the evening,
The Garden warbler was singing opposite Crossland's hide, with 2 Pink-footed geese seen on the North field & 5 Common terns over the reserve,
Also seen was Barn owl (early morning), Hobby (hunting Crossland's lake), Little owl, female Marsh harrier (Cell 'C') & 3+ Yellow wagtails
Buff-tailed bumblebee was seen

Thursday 2nd May 2024

A White-fronted goose was found with 10 Greylags in the New workings. It was later seen to fly off with these birds in an eventually southerly direction,
A Cuckoo was heard calling by the far lake in the late morning,
The Savi's warbler was 'reeling' in the south west side of the Village lake, with the Garden warbler still singing by the Silt pond,
A Yellow wagtail, Common sandpiper & singing Corn bunting were in the New workings,
Also seen was Barn owl (hunting in the evening), Little owl, Hobby & Pink-footed goose (Crossland's lake),
Common carder & Tree bumblebees were seen,
Orange tip, Small & Green-veined whites, plus Peacock were seen,
Large red & Common blue damselflies were also out

Wednesday 1st May 2024

There was a very brief Black tern over Crossland's lake in the early morning, that flew west,
A drake Garganey was firstly on Cell 1a & then moved to Crossland's lake, 
The Savi's warbler was 'reeling' in Cell 'C', with the Garden warbler still singing by the Silt pond,
A Curlew was over the Silt pond, with 7 Whimbrel being seen to fly north in the late morning, 
Also seen was a pair of Grey partridge & singing Corn bunting (New workings), 2 Common sandpipers (Silt pond), a Greenshank (heard), Hobby (over Far lake), a Pink-footed goose (Crossland's lake), te 8th Greylag brood, 5th Mallard brood (both Crossland's lake), Little & Barn owl (late evening), adult Mediterranean gull (Cell 2a), Marsh harrier, Red kite & 2 Yellowhammers (West End),
Common carder bumblebee, Brimstone, Green-veined white, Orange tip, Red admiral, Speckled wood & Azure damselfly were seen

Tuesday 30th April 2024

The Savi's warbler was 'reeling' from the south west corner of the Village lake in the morning & then in Cell 'C' in the evening
In the scrub alongside the Silt pond, the Garden warbler was singing & showing well,
In the evening, 9 Whimbrel flew onto the Silt pond, with a Short-eared owl being seen on a fence post by the North field,
Also seen was Mediterranean gull (Cell 2a), 2 Black-tailed godwits (Village lake), 2 Common sandpipers (Cell 2a), Corn bunting (West End), Little owl, Red kite, Marsh harrier
Peacock & Common blue damselfly were seen today

Monday 29th April 2024

The Savi's warbler was 'reeling' in Cell 'C' this morning,
At the Silt pond, along Dryham lane, the Garden warbler again was singing & showing well,
A pair of Grey partridges & singing Corn bunting were in the New workings,
A Hobby was seen over Cell 'C' in the morning,
Also seen was , Barn owl (hunting mid-morning), 20+ Avocets, 2 to 3 Yellow wagtails about the reserve, 6 Wigeon, Dunlin & the immature Great black-backed gull (all Cell 'A') & 2 adult Mediterranean gulls,
Buff-tailed & Common carder bumblebees, plus Orange tip, Comma, Small white & Green-veined white butterflies were seen,
The second Large red damselfly of the year was along Dryham lane

Sunday 28th April 2024

The Savi's warbler was singing from the southern end of the Village lake,
A Hobby was hawking over Cell 'B' in the morning & in the evening was seen to be perched on the fence between Cells 'B' & 'C',
In the morning, a pair of  Goosanders were on Cell 'A', later flying off to the south west,
Also seen was Barn owl, Curlew (over North field), Little grebe with 2 juveniles (Cell 'A'), Common tern (Silt pond) & adult Mediterranean gull (Cell 2a),
Common carder bumblebee was seen flying

Saturday 27th April 2024

9+ Common terns were present today, being seen on the Village lake, Silt pond & Cell 2a,
About 14 Black-tailed godwits were seen to fly west in the early morning,
The Savi's warbler was 'reeling' from Cell 'C' & also the Village lake,
Yet again the Garden warbler was singing & seen along Dryham lane, by the Silt pond,
Also seen was a Barn & Tawny owl (early in the morning in the New workings), at least 5  juvenile Long-tailed tits (West path), Corn bunting (West End), Little owl, Peregrine, Red kite, Yellow wagtail, adult Mediterranean gull (Cell 2a) & 2 Arctic terns east
Buff-tailed & Garden bumblebees were seen, as well as Green-veined white butterflies

Friday 26th April 2024

The Savi's warbler was 'reeling' in both the Village lake & Cell 'C' today,
A Garden warbler was both seen & singing, along side Dryham lane by the Silt pond,
An Osprey flew north over the New workings in the afternoon,
A Hobby was hunting hirundines over the Reed-bed in the evening,
Also seen was 2 Pink-footed geese (Crossland's lake), 2 Redshanks, 25+ Avocets, displaying Little ringed plovers (both in Cell 'A'), Cuckoo, Little owl, Red kite & mediterranean gull (Cell 2a),
3 Orange tip males & Green-veined white butterflies were seen, as well as Common carder, Garden, Buff & Red-tailed bumblebees
